Luis B. Martinez, LMFT

Luis B. Martinez is a first-generation Mexican-American and child of immigrants. He is committed to providing honest support, focused guidance, strong problem-solving partnerships, and mentorship in his therapy to all individuals who have the courage to face their issues and would like to improve themselves. Raised in a low-income family, Luis understands the challenges and impacts of life in ways we may not be prepared for, as well as the difficulties of trying to live with minimal help and support.

Currently, he practices at a group practice, providing individual, couples, and family therapy. He treats a wide range of issues focused on depression, anxiety/social anxiety, trauma and post-trauma growth work, grief and loss, ADHD, Latino/Hispanic cultural issues, and relationship/interpersonal issues such as boundaries, communication, and relating to others and oneself, and men’s health issues. He enjoys all forms of therapy, but his preferred choice is couples therapy.

Luis has provided therapeutic services to individuals in different settings, including detention centers and community-based treatment for families with a teenager on probation in the client’s home. Specifically, he worked in San Bernardino County, where treatment was typically conducted in neighborhoods and low-income housing.

Luis has extensive experience providing consultation, training, and supervision for individuals and agencies. He has served as a guest lecturer at a School Counseling graduate program and has conducted 3-day training sessions for Probation Correction Officers in San Bernardino from 2018 to 2021. The training covered symptomology, trauma and vicarious trauma, substance abuse, roles and responsibilities, and crisis intervention. Currently, Luis covers a wide range of training and presentation topics, including anxiety, depression, school-based symptomology, trauma-informed practices, conduct and behavioral issues, as well as Multicultural Topics surrounding Latino Families with a specific focus on spiritual practices, cultural expectations, Machismo/Marianismo, and the importance of the father’s role in the family. Luis is currently pursuing a Ph.D. His work has consistently focused on Personality (Dark Triad, Antisocial Personality, Narcissism), and social and multicultural psychology.
